A.33.22

Massey Ferguson A.33.22 – Electronic Hitch Control (EHC) / Hydraulic Control Module or Transmission/Chassis Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Fault, connection problem, or pressure/flow irregularity detected on the 3rd external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The valve is either failing to actuate properly, suffering from a pressure drop, or experiencing an electrical connection issue at the solenoid.

Check the cause

  1. Check hydraulic fluid level and condition for low fluid, dark color, burnt smell, or milky appearance (indicating water contamination)

  2. Inspect the hydraulic filter for contamination, as a clogged filter restricts oil flow and triggers valve faults

  3. Inspect quick couplers, fittings, and the Valve 3 block for external leaks

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the Valve 3 solenoid for corrosion, loose pins, or damage

  5. Perform a pressure test using a hydraulic gauge at the diagnostic coupler to isolate the issue to Valve 3 or identify a broader pump restriction

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic system pressure before starting work.

  2. Address Fluid/Filter

If the fluid is degraded or the filter is clogged, drain the hydraulic fluid, replace the filter with an OEM unit, and refill with fresh UTTO fluid.

  3. Access the Valve Block

Locate the rear remote valve block and identify the slice for External Hydraulic Valve 3.

  4. Electrical Repair

Disconnect the electrical harness to the valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring is damaged, repair the harness.

  5. Valve Resealing

If the valve is leaking internally or externally but the solenoid is good, remove the valve slice and rebuild it using an OEM spool valve repair kit (replacing all O-rings and seals).

  6. Valve Replacement

If the spool valve is mechanically scored, binding, or the electronic solenoid has failed, remove the mounting bolts, extract the faulty electric spool slice, and install a new unit. (Note: Some new electric spool slices require programming/calibration to the tractor's ECU upon installation).

  7. Reassembly & Bleeding

Reinstall the valve block, reconnect all hydraulic lines and electrical harnesses. Start the tractor and operate the hydraulics to bleed air from the system (aeration causes vibrations and spontaneous cylinder action).

  8. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.33.22 DTC and test the remote valve under load.
