Massey Ferguson A.33.23 – Implement/Hydraulic ECU or Tractor Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the third external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem to the valve's solenoid, a sticking/jammed spool valve due to internal wear or debris, or a loss of hydraulic pressure caused by internal leaks.

Check the cause
Visually inspect for hydraulic fluid leaks around the #3 external valve, quick couplers, and hoses
Check hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and inspect for contamination (metal shavings or dirt) which can cause the valve to stick
Inspect the wiring harness and connector to the #3 hydraulic valve solenoid for corrosion, fraying, or loose connections
Perform a spool leakage check: Position control handle in Neutral, connect a hydraulic hand pump to the control valve port, and pressurize to 2500 psi. A pressure drop indicates oil leaking around the spool
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve any residual pressure in the system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connected to the #3 external hydraulic valve. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses, capping them immediately to prevent contamination.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the #3 spool valve assembly from the hydraulic valve stack/block.
Disassemble and Clean
Carefully disassemble the valve. Clean all components and inspect the spool and bore for scoring, wear, or debris.
Rebuild or Replace
If the spool or bore is damaged, the entire valve slice must be replaced. If it is just a seal issue, rebuild the valve using an OEM repair kit.
Reinstall
Mount the new or rebuilt valve back onto the valve block. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.
Fluid and Filter
If contamination was found, drain the hydraulic fluid, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with clean UTTO fluid.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.33.23 fault code from the system and test the #3 remote for proper operation.
