Massey Ferguson A.3X.20 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) / Autotronic module or Hydraulic Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a malfunction or communication failure with the tractor's number 3 electro-hydraulic spool valve (also known as a Selective Control Valve or SCV).

Check the cause
Check the cab controls (SCV unlock button and fingertip/joystick) for a blinking red light, which indicates the system is failing to unlock the valve due to an electrical fault.
Inspect the LED indicators directly on the #3 electro-hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor (solid red = power, green = input, flashing = internal fault).
Inspect the wiring harness, solenoid connector, and rub points leading to the #3 valve for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power, and test the coil resistance.
Check for mechanical binding by ensuring the external linkage is in the center position and the valve spool is not physically stuck.
Repair steps
Safety First
Disengage the PTO, stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving parts to stop before working near the hydraulic valves.
Access Diagnostics
Turn the key on, push the clutch in and release it to clear the right screen, then hold down the up arrow key to access the Autotronic TC/DC error codes to confirm the exact sub-code for the #3 valve.
Clean and Re-seat Connections
Disconnect the electrical plug at the #3 SCV. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, check for pushed-out pins, and securely reconnect it. Clear the error code from the dashboard and retest.
Address Spool Valve Detents
On certain models (like the 7600 series), purchase replacement detents and modify them to fit instead of replacing the entire valve assembly.
Replace the Valve
If the internal electronics of the valve have failed (indicated by the flashing LED on the valve body and persistent codes) and the wiring is intact, the complete electro-hydraulic spool valve assembly must be replaced.
Unlock the System
After repair, delete the error code from the control unit dashboard to unlock the affected valve, as the system will keep the valve locked out until the code is cleared.
Parts you might need
(2)Electro-Hydraulic Spool Valve Assembly (SCV Valve)
Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact chassis serial number and pump flow rate.
SCV Detent Kit
Available for specific series (like the 7600 series) to rebuild the mechanical detent portion of the valve without replacing the entire electronic block.
