A.3X.26

Massey Ferguson A.3X.26 – TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit) or Autotronic 5: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction associated with the third external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The issue typically stems from an electrical fault (such as a short circuit, open load, or voltage irregularity in the solenoid circuit), a sensor communication error, or a mechanical binding/sticking of the valve spool that prevents it from reaching its commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Fluid & Filter Check: Verify that the hydraulic oil level is correct and the hydraulic filters are not blocked, as low pressure or aeration can cause valve actuation faults.

  2. Wiring and Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 3. Look for rub points, damaged wires, or loose connections.

  3. Electrical Testing: Test the solenoid connector for proper voltage and check the coil resistance to rule out an open circuit or a short to ground/battery.

  4. Mechanical Binding Check: Check if the valve spool is physically stuck. A stuck valve can trigger a position transducer fault if the spool cannot be brought back to the neutral position.

  5. Reboot/Reset: Stop and re-run the engine to see if the valve reactivates. If the code persists, the valve will remain electronically locked out by the controller.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Lower all hydraulic implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve any residual pressure in the system.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify Valve 3.

  3. Disconnect Electrical Components

Unplug the electrical harness from the Valve 3 solenoid and position sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner if corrosion is present.

  4. Remove the Solenoid/Valve

If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut and slide the coil off the valve cartridge to replace it. If the valve itself is mechanically stuck or leaking internally, unbolt the Valve 3 section from the hydraulic manifold stack.

  5. Clean and Inspect

Inspect the spool for scoring or contamination. If the spool is damaged, the valve section must be replaced.

  6. Reassembly

Install the new solenoid or valve section. Replace any mating O-rings between the valve slices to prevent internal leaks. Torque the tie-rod bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface tool to clear the A.3X.26 fault code from the system.

  8. Test Operation

Start the tractor, allow the hydraulic fluid to reach operating temperature, and test the function of Remote Valve 3 to ensure the code does not return.
