A.3X.27

Massey Ferguson A.3X.27 – Autotronic / EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Control) module or ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the third electrohydraulic spool valve (solenoid valve 3). The system has detected an anomaly such as an open circuit, a short to ground, a short between cables, or a rapid shut-off error.

Check the cause

  1. Check the Valve LED Indicators: Look at the LED on the electronic valve itself. It should be solid red when receiving power and turn green when receiving input to move. Flashing indicates a fault.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the solenoid connector and harness for rub points, corrosion, or loose connections that could cause an open circuit or short to ground.

  3. Test Electrical Integrity: Use a multimeter to check the coil resistance of the solenoid and verify ground integrity.

  4. Check Cab Controls: Verify if the SMS joystick or electric fingertip controls are functioning properly and check if the unlock button in the cab is responding.

  5. Verify Linkage Position: Ensure the external linkage and valves are in the center position, as a stuck mechanical position can trigger a fault.

Repair steps

  1. Locate Valve 3

Identify the third external hydraulic spool valve on the rear hydraulic block.

  2. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the wiring harness from the solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the harness is damaged, repair or replace the affected wiring.

  4. Test/Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact, test the solenoid coil. If it fails the resistance test, replace the solenoid coil.

  5. Address Mechanical Binding

If the electrical circuit is perfect, the spool valve itself may be mechanically stuck. You can attempt to rebuild it using an OEM repair kit, or replace the entire electric spool slice.

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the wiring, restore battery power, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs from the Autotronic/ECU memory.
