Massey Ferguson A.40.11: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Malfunction associated with the 4th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve (open circuit, short circuit to earth, short circuit between cables, or current level error at the solenoid), or a mechanical failure preventing the valve from operating correctly or holding pressure.

   Check the hydraulic fluid level and condition. If the fluid is dark, smells burnt, or has a milky appearance (indicating water contamination), it must be addressed first.

   Inspect the wiring harness, connector, and pins at External Hydraulic Valve 4 for corrosion, open circuits, or short circuits.

   Use a hydraulic gauge to test the system pressure to determine if the issue is isolated to Valve 4 or if there is a broader pump/restriction issue.

   Check for external hydraulic leaks around the valve, couplers, and hoses, which can cause pressure drops.

   Ensure the hydraulic filter is not partially blocked, which restricts flow to the system.

   Fluid Maintenance

   If the hydraulic fluid is contaminated or degraded, flush the system and change the fluid.

   Wiring Repair

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or corroded connector at Valve 4, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Solenoid Replacement

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid for Valve 4 has an internal short or open circuit, remove and replace the solenoid coil.

   Valve Servicing

   If the electrical components are functioning but the valve is leaking internally or sticking, remove the hydraulic control valve assembly.

   Seal Replacement

   Replace any worn O-rings, seals, or damaged check valves within the Valve 4 section. If the valve body is heavily scored, the entire valve section must be replaced.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the valve, replace the hydraulic filter (recommended every 300–500 hours), and refill the system with clean UTTO fluid.

   Code Clearing

   Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the DTC from the system and test the remote connections for proper operation.
