Check the cause

  1. Verify hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition; look for dark, burnt, or milky fluid indicating contamination

  2. Check the hydraulic/transmission filter for blockages that can restrict flow

  3. Inspect the rear remote valve block (Valve 4) for external leaks, specifically from the rear end of the Bosch SB23 valve

  4. Check the wiring harness and dedicated solenoid on Valve 4 for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires

  5. Perform a pressure test using a hydraulic gauge on the #4 rear coupler to verify if the valve generates pressure when activated

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Area

Clean the front and rear of the valve body thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  2. Disconnect Linkages/Wiring

Remove any manual backup linkages/levers and disconnect the electronic solenoid harness from Valve 4.

  3. Remove the Rear Pipe

Unscrew the large pipe/fitting from the rear of the valve. (Note: This can be very tight. Use a 1-1/2" 6-point socket and breaker bar. If the nut breaks loose without turning the pipe, you may need to temporarily tack-weld the nut to the pipe to back it out).

  4. Extract the Spool

Once the rear pipe is unscrewed, pull the pipe and the valve spool out through the back of the valve body.

  5. Disassemble the Spool

Clamp the flat front part of the spool in a soft-jaw vise. Carefully unscrew the slotted plug from the rear (it is spring-loaded). Remove the spring, ball cup, and detent balls using a small magnet.

  6. Reseal

Slide off the detent sleeve and replace all internal O-rings and seals using the components provided in the Spool Valve Repair Kit.

  7. Reassembly

Reassemble the spool, reinsert it into the valve body, tighten the rear pipe, and reconnect the electronic solenoid. Clear the DTC codes using a compatible diagnostic tool.
