A.40.21

Massey Ferguson A.40.21 – Datatronic system: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the 4th auxiliary/external hydraulic remote valve circuit. This indicates a connection problem, an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit to ground, or short circuit between cables), or a mechanical/pressure failure preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Check hydraulic fluid level and condition (look for dark, burnt, or milky fluid indicating water contamination)

  2. Inspect the hydraulic filter for partial blockages that could restrict flow

  3. Inspect electrical connections, wiring harness, and solenoids on Valve 4 for corrosion, open circuits, or shorts

  4. Test system pressure with a hydraulic gauge to isolate the issue to Valve 4 or identify broader pump/relief valve issues

  5. Inspect the Bosch SB23 valve block for external leaks

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Fluid/Filter Issues

If diagnostics point to contamination, drain the hydraulic fluid, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with clean UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil).

  2. Repair Wiring

If the wiring harness to Valve 4 is damaged, repair the broken wires or replace the connector to resolve open/short circuits.

  3. Reseal the Valve

If the valve is leaking, use a specialized Spool Valve Replacement/Reseal Kit (such as the K-Line AT20010 tool) to reseal the leaking remote valve instead of replacing the entire expensive valve.

  4. Replace the Valve Section

If the valve spool or solenoid is internally damaged beyond a reseal, unbolt the specific distributor section for Valve 4 from the valve stack and replace it with a new OEM unit.

  5. System Initialization

After repairing or replacing the valve, turn on the tractor and use the Datatronic system to initialize the joystick controls. Ensure the red warning light goes out and the lock icons disappear from the screen, indicating the valve is operational.
