A.41.11

Massey Ferguson A.41.11 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) controller: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a connection problem, electrical fault, or operational failure associated with the 4th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected that the valve is either not responding to commands, has an open/short in its electrical circuit, or is failing to provide the correct feedback.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Dark, burnt, or milky fluid can cause hydraulic components to malfunction.

  2. Inspect the external hydraulic valve block (specifically Valve 4) for physical damage or external fluid leaks.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Valve 4. Look for frayed wires, corrosion inside the connector, or a loose plug.

  4. Use a multimeter to check for continuity and proper voltage at the Valve 4 solenoid harness.

  5. Perform a component swap test: temporarily swap the electrical connector from Valve 4 to another known-good valve (like Valve 3). If the fault code changes to Valve 3, the issue is in the wiring/controller. If the fault remains on Valve 4, the valve's solenoid or internal spool is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Lower all attached implements to the ground to remove weight from the hydraulic system. Turn off the engine.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Move the hydraulic control levers/joystick back and forth to relieve any residual pressure in the hydraulic lines.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the external hydraulic valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  4. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Valve 4 solenoid.

  5. Solenoid Replacement

If only the electronic solenoid coil has failed, remove the retaining nut at the end of the spool, slide the old coil off, and install the new one.

  6. Valve Replacement

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines connected to Valve 4. Cap the lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Remove the mounting bolts securing the Valve 4 section to the hydraulic manifold/stack. Carefully remove the valve. Install the new valve section, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specification.

  7. Reassembly

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical harness back into the valve.

  8. Testing

Top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor, actuate Valve 4 to bleed any trapped air, and check for leaks.

  9. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.41.11 / 0A.41.11 fault code from the system.
