Massey Ferguson A.41.13 – Vehicle/Transmission Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

The onboard diagnostic system has detected a fault—typically an electrical connection problem, voltage irregularity, or mechanical binding—specifically on the 4th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve).

   Check hydraulic oil level and condition, and inspect the transmission/hydraulic filter for blockages that could cause the spool valve to stick.

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the #4 spool valve solenoid for corrosion, damaged wires, or loose pins.

   Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the #4 valve solenoid coil to ensure it hasn't shorted or burned out.

   Perform a swap test by exchanging the electrical connection or solenoid coil with a known working remote (e.g., Valve 3) to isolate whether the fault is in the solenoid/valve or the wiring/ECU.

   Ensure the quick-release couplers are not damaged or blocked, which can cause pressure-related faults.

   Relieve Pressure

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/joysticks to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the exterior of the hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from contaminating the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the #4 external hydraulic valve.

   Replace Solenoid (If Applicable)

   If only the electronic solenoid coil has failed, remove the retaining nut at the end of the spool, slide the old coil off, install the new one, and tighten the nut.

   Replace Valve Slice (If Applicable)

   If the mechanical valve itself is faulty, remove the tie-rod bolts holding the valve stack together. Carefully slide out the #4 valve slice.

   Install New Seals

   When installing the new spool valve section, you must use new O-rings/seals between the valve slices to prevent internal leaks.

   Reassembly

   Reinsert the tie-rod bolts and torque them to the OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Top up the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, check for leaks, and test the operation of the #4 remote. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.41.13 fault code from the system.
