A.41.19

Massey Ferguson A.41.19: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction or connection problem on the tractor's fourth external auxiliary hydraulic remote valve, indicating electrical connection problems, pressure loss, or mechanical failure within the specified hydraulic valve.

Check the cause

  1. Check the UTTO hydraulic fluid level and condition. If the fluid is dark, smells burnt, or looks milky (water contamination), it must be flushed.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical solenoid connectors going directly to External Valve 4 for corrosion, broken wires, or loose fittings.

  3. Use a hydraulic gauge to test the system pressure at the remote couplers to determine if the issue is isolated to Valve 4 or if there is a broader pump/restriction issue.

  4. Inspect the valve block, O-rings, hoses, and quick couplers for external leaks.

  5. Ensure the hydraulic filter is not partially blocked, which can restrict flow to the valve block.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and actuate the hydraulic levers/joysticks to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system before wrenching.

  2. Disconnect Valve 4

Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Disconnect the electrical harness connected to Valve 4.

  3. Remove the Valve

Disconnect the hydraulic lines and unbolt the specific spool valve section from the manifold block.

  4. Inspect and Clean

Check the valve for sticking spools or blown internal O-rings. If the valve is a Bosch Rexroth SB23, the electronic unit on the valve is highly prone to failure.

  5. Repair or Replace

Due to the complexity and high failure rate of the OEM electronic spool valves, replace the valve section entirely or send it to a hydraulic specialist for an electrical joystick conversion/rebuild.

  6. Reassembly

Install the new or repaired valve with fresh O-rings. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

  7. Fluid and Filter

Change the hydraulic filter and top off the system with clean UTTO fluid.

  8. Test

Start the tractor, allow the fluid to warm up, and test the remote valve with an implement to ensure the code clears and pressure holds.
