Massey Ferguson A.41.1A – Hydraulic Control Module / Chassis/Implement ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

The onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction, an out-of-range signal, or a connection problem on the 4th rear remote/external hydraulic spool valve circuit.

   Inspect the electrical harness connector at External Hydraulic Valve 4 for corrosion, bent pins, or loose seating.

   Trace the wiring from the valve solenoid back to the ECU to check for chafing, breaks, or rodent damage.

   Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the valve 4 solenoid and verify it is receiving the correct voltage from the ECU when actuated.

   Check if the valve spool is physically stuck due to hydraulic fluid contamination or internal wear.

   Verify the hydraulic fluid level is correct and that the hydraulic filters are not restricted.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the hydraulic remote levers/buttons.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack (specifically around Valve 4) with brake cleaner or a pressure washer to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Valve 4 solenoid.

   Remove Hoses

   Unbolt the hydraulic lines/hoses connected to the valve. Cap the lines and plug the ports immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

   Unbolt the Valve

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the spool valve to the hydraulic manifold/valve bank.

   Replace Components

   Remove the faulty valve assembly. If only the solenoid is faulty and available separately, replace it. Otherwise, replace the entire spool valve section.

   Install New Seals

   Always discard the old O-rings and install a new O-ring seal kit between the valve and the manifold.

   Reassembly

   Mount the new valve, torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor, test the operation of the 4th remote to ensure there are no leaks, and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the DTC from the system.
