Massey Ferguson A.41.23 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) / Implement/Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue
Issue description
Fault in the circuit or operation of the 4th external hydraulic spool valve. Typically caused by an electrical problem (open circuit, short to ground, or short to power at the valve's solenoid) or a mechanical issue (sticking valve spindle or inconsistent hydraulic pressure) preventing the valve from responding correctly.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 4 for rub points, frayed wires, or damage
Inspect the solenoid connector on the 4th valve for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins
Measure the coil resistance of the valve's solenoid to ensure it is not open or shorted to ground
Verify that the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and that the hydraulic filter is not clogged
Check if the valve is physically stuck due to spindle wear or debris in the hydraulic fluid
Repair steps
Retrieve and Clear Codes
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (e.g., AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to confirm code 0A.41.23 is active.
Resolve Electrical Faults
If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged harness section or clean the solenoid connector contacts.
Replace the Solenoid Coil
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil fails the resistance test, remove the retaining nut on the valve block and replace the solenoid coil.
Unstick or Rebuild the Valve
If the electrical side is functioning but the valve is mechanically stuck (often accompanied by a groaning pump or unresponsive hydraulics), remove the spool valve assembly. Clean the valve body and inspect the spindle for excessive wear. Use an OEM repair kit to replace the internal seals and O-rings.
Replace the Valve Assembly
If the valve spindle or housing is heavily worn and cannot be rebuilt, replace the entire electric spool slice/valve assembly.
System Reset
After repairs, clear the error code from the control unit dashboard. Note that the system may lock the affected valve until the code is successfully cleared. Test the hydraulic function to ensure normal operation.
