A.41.2A

Massey Ferguson A.41.2A – Onboard diagnostic system: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Fault within the tractor's 4th auxiliary hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) circuit, typically caused by an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a solenoid failure, or a mechanical issue preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness, connectors, and solenoids specifically routed to External Valve 4 for open circuits, shorts, or corrosion (electrical connection problem cause).

  2. Verify that the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) is at the correct level and is not contaminated (dark, burnt smell, or milky appearance).

  3. Ensure the hydraulic filter is not restricted.

  4. Perform a spool leakage check (mechanical/internal leak cause): Position the control handle in 'Neutral', connect a hydraulic hand pump to the control valve port, and pressurize it to 2500 psi. If it cannot hold pressure, oil is leaking internally.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the front of the valve and spool area to prevent contamination from entering the hydraulic system.

  2. Address Electrical Faults

Disconnect the electrical connector at Valve 4. Clean the pins and re-seat the connector. If the solenoid coil is dead (test for continuity), replace the solenoid.

  3. Remove the Spool

If mechanically failing/leaking, remove the linkage or lever from the spool. Unscrew the large pipe/plug from the rear of the valve.

  4. Extract Internal Components

The rear plug is spring-loaded; remove it carefully. Take out the spring, and use a small magnet to draw out the ball cup and detent balls.

  5. Withdraw the Spool

Slide the large pipe rearward off the spool and actuator. Withdraw the spool from the valve body.

  6. Rebuild and Reassemble

Clean all components. Replace the O-rings and seals using an OEM repair kit. Reassemble the valve in the reverse order of disassembly, ensuring the detent balls and springs are seated correctly.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool/interface device to clear the DTCs from the tractor's memory and verify the repair.
