A.42.11

Massey Ferguson A.42.11 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

The onboard diagnostic system has detected an electrical or connection problem with the solenoid valve that controls the 4th external hydraulic remote, typically indicating an open circuit, a short circuit to earth, a short circuit between cables, or a current level error at Solenoid Valve 4.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic fluid level and condition for dark, burnt-smelling, or milky fluid (indicating water contamination), and inspect for a partially blocked hydraulic filter

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to External Hydraulic Solenoid Valve 4 for damaged wires, corrosion, or loose connections

  3. Use a multimeter to test Solenoid Valve 4 for continuity and correct resistance to rule out an internal short or open circuit within the coil

  4. If the electrical circuit is intact, test the system pressure with a hydraulic gauge to determine if the valve is mechanically failing to hold or direct pressure

Repair steps

  1. Address Fluid Issues

If the hydraulic fluid is contaminated or degraded, drain the system, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with the correct UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) fluid.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or corroded connectors at the Solenoid Valve 4 harness, repair or replace the affected wiring.

  3. Replace the Solenoid Valve

If the wiring is intact but the valve's coil fails electrical testing or the valve is mechanically stuck, remove the faulty Solenoid Valve 4 from the rear axle valve block. Clean the mounting area and install the new replacement solenoid valve.

  4. Clear Codes

Connect a compatible diagnostic tool or interface device to the tractor to clear the DTCs from the system.

  5. Operational Test

Start the tractor and test the 4th external hydraulic remote with an implement to ensure proper operation and verify that the code does not return.
