Massey Ferguson A.42.23 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Control) Module or Transmission/Hydraulic Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Malfunction associated with the 4th rear remote hydraulic spool valve, indicating an anomaly in the valve's circuit or operation such as an electrical fault, sensor signal out of range, or mechanical sticking.

   Verify the hydraulic oil level and inspect the hydraulic filters for heavy contamination that could restrict flow and cause pressure drops.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 4 solenoid for rub points, damaged insulation, or corrosion inside the connector.

   Use a multimeter to check the coil resistance of the Valve 4 solenoid and verify ground integrity.

   Swap the electrical connector (or the solenoid itself) from Valve 4 to Valve 3. If the fault code changes to a 'Valve 3 Issue', the solenoid is the culprit. If the code remains on Valve 4, the issue is in the wiring harness or the internal mechanical spool.

   Check if the spool is physically sticking due to debris or scored internal cylinder walls.

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure before unbolting any components.

   Disconnect Electronics

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Valve 4 solenoid.

   Remove the Valve/Solenoid

   Unbolt the retaining screws holding the Valve 4 solenoid and spool assembly to the main hydraulic block.

   Inspect and Clean

   Carefully pull the spool valve out. Inspect the spool for scoring, metal shavings, or damaged O-rings. Clean the valve body thoroughly.

   Replace Seals or Component

   If the valve was leaking internally or sticking, rebuild it using a spool valve seal kit (replacing the black and white O-rings/seals). If the solenoid failed the electrical test, replace the solenoid/valve assembly entirely.

   Reassembly

   Lubricate the new O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid. Reinsert the spool valve, tighten the mounting bolts to OEM torque specs, and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test and Clear

   Top up the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, test the remote valve for proper operation and leaks, and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.42.23 DTC from the system.
