Massey Ferguson A.42.25 – Vehicle Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue
Issue description
The onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction in the circuit or operation of the 4th rear remote hydraulic spool valve, indicating electrical connection problems, solenoid failures, or mechanical sticking.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 4 solenoid for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the Valve 4 solenoid and check for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion.
Use a multimeter to test the resistance (Ohms) of the Valve 4 solenoid coil and compare it to a known good coil on the tractor (e.g., Valve 3).
Verify that the solenoid is receiving proper voltage from the wiring harness when the cab control for Valve 4 is actuated.
Repair steps
Clean and Re-seat
If the connector is dirty or corroded, clean it thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and re-seat the connection. Clear the DTCs and test the hydraulic remote to see if the code returns.
Replace the Solenoid Coil
If the multimeter test shows an open circuit or a short in the solenoid coil, the coil must be replaced. Remove the retaining nut on the end of the spool valve, slide the old coil off, and install the new one.
Inspect the Spool Valve
If the electrical circuit and coil are perfectly functional, the issue is likely mechanical (the spool is sticking inside the valve block).
Valve Cleaning/Replacement
Depressurize the hydraulic system. Remove the Valve 4 section from the remote stack. Inspect the internal spool for scoring, metal debris, or damaged O-rings. Clean the valve block thoroughly. If the valve body is heavily scored, the entire valve section will need to be replaced.
Reassembly and Testing
Reassemble the valve stack, top off hydraulic fluid if any was lost, clear the codes using a diagnostic tool, and cycle the remote valve under load to ensure the issue is resolved.
