Massey Ferguson A.42.27 – EHR or main implement/hydraulic control unit: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 4th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The system has detected an anomaly such as a connection problem, an open circuit, a short to ground, or an out-of-range signal at the solenoid controlling this specific hydraulic valve.

Check the cause
Check the hydraulic fluid levels and inspect the rear external hydraulic valve block for visible leaks.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 4 solenoid for rub points, frayed wires, or a short to ground.
Disconnect the solenoid connector and check for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the Valve 4 solenoid coil and compare it against the manufacturer's spec to determine if the coil is open or shorted.
Check if the hydraulic valve is sticking or jamming due to internal wear or debris in the hydraulic fluid.
Repair steps
Preparation
Safely park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons.
Locate Valve 4
Identify the 4th external hydraulic remote valve on the rear valve stack.
Electrical Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged harness or corroded connector, repair the wiring or clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.
Solenoid Replacement
If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off and install the new replacement solenoid.
Valve Cleaning/Replacement
If the electrical circuit is sound but the valve is mechanically jammed, the valve spool may need to be removed, cleaned of debris, and resealed (or the entire valve section replaced if heavily worn).
Clear Codes
Reconnect the harness, turn on the tractor, and use the dashboard controls or a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the error code.
Test
Operate the 4th hydraulic remote to ensure proper fluid flow and verify the code does not return.
