Check the cause

  1. Check the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 4 (located at the rear remote stack) for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the 4th remote valve for chafing, breaks, or short circuits.

  3. Temporarily swap the electrical connector from Valve 3 to Valve 4. If the fault code changes to indicate a Valve 3 issue, the problem lies in the tractor's wiring harness or ECU. If the code remains A.43.19, the solenoid or the valve slice itself has failed internally.

  4. Ensure hydraulic fluid levels are correct and filters are not restricting flow, which can cause pressure control anomalies.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons.

  2. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  3. Locate valve

Locate the rear hydraulic valve stack and identify the 4th valve slice (External Hydraulic Valve 4).

  4. Clean valve block

Thoroughly clean the exterior of the valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when it is opened.

  5. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the Valve 4 solenoid.

  6. Replace solenoid

If replacing the pilot pressure control solenoid only, unbolt it from the valve slice and install the new unit.

  7. Remove tie-rod bolts

If replacing the entire electric spool slice, remove the tie-rod bolts holding the remote valve stack together.

  8. Remove faulty slice

Carefully slide out the faulty Valve 4 slice. Ensure you do not lose or damage the O-rings between the adjacent slices.

  9. Install new slice

Install the new electric spool slice using new O-rings (from a spool valve repair kit).

  10. Reinsert tie-rod bolts

Reinsert the tie-rod bolts and torque them to the OEM specifications.

  11. Reconnect harness

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new valve.

  12. Test operation

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and test the operation of the 4th remote.

  13. Clear fault code

Clear the A.43.19 fault code using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool. (Note: Replacement electric spool slices often need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU upon installation).
