A.43.1F

Massey Ferguson A.43.1F: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a fault within the circuit of the 4th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem to the hydraulic valve, a stuck valve spool, or a failure in the valve's internal sealing/pressure holding capabilities.

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic fluid level and inspect the fluid condition for a dark, burnt, or milky appearance (indicating water contamination).

  2. Inspect the hydraulic filter for partial blockages that could restrict flow to the system.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors going to External Valve 4 for corrosion, damage, or loose connections.

  4. Test the system pressure with a hydraulic gauge to pinpoint whether the issue is isolated to the valve itself, or if there is a broader pump or restriction issue.

  5. Observe the control valve operation and attempt to manually move the pump control valve lever back and forth to see if a physically stuck valve can be released.

Repair steps

  1. Flush and Replace Fluid

Drain the old hydraulic fluid, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with clean UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) if contaminated.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the electrical connector to Valve 4 is damaged, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner or splice in a new connector pigtail. Clear the codes to see if A.43.1F returns.

  3. Remove the Valve

If the valve is internally leaking (e.g., implements dropping overnight) or physically stuck, depressurize the hydraulic system and remove the external hydraulic control valve assembly.

  4. Clean and Overhaul

Disassemble the valve. Clean the internal spool and replace all internal O-rings and seals.

  5. Replace the Valve

If the valve body is scored or the electronic solenoid has failed internally, replace the entire External Hydraulic Valve 4 unit.

  6. Reinstall and Test

Reinstall the valve, ensure all hydraulic lines and electrical connections are secure, and test the remote under load to ensure proper pressure and no leaks.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Hydraulic Fluid (UTTO)

e.g., 10W40 Universal Tractor Transmission Oil

  • Hydraulic Filter

    OEM replacement filter

  • External Hydraulic Control Valve (Spool Valve / Remote Valve)

    Specific to tractor model

  • Hydraulic Valve Seal / O-Ring Kit

For rebuilding the leaking control valve
