Massey Ferguson A.43.22: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

A malfunction in the 4th rear hydraulic remote (spool valve) circuit, typically caused by an electrical fault (such as a poor connection or failed solenoid) or a mechanical issue (such as a sticking spool valve preventing proper fluid flow or pressure).

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connections leading to the #4 external hydraulic valve solenoid for corrosion, frayed wires, or loose connector pins.

   Check for mechanical binding by testing if the valve is sticking in one direction.

   Inspect the valve block for external hydraulic fluid leaks, which can indicate blown O-rings causing pressure drops.

   Ensure the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and the hydraulic filters are not clogged.

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system before beginning work.

   Access the Valve Stack

   Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify Valve #4.

   Electrical Repair

   If the diagnostic check revealed a damaged connector or wiring, splice in a new connector pigtail or clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Valve Removal

   If the valve is sticking or leaking, disconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical solenoid connections to Valve #4. Unbolt the valve section from the hydraulic stack.

   Rebuild or Replace

   To rebuild: Disassemble the spool valve and replace the internal O-rings (commonly a black and a white O-ring positioned side-by-side inside the assembly). To replace: Install a completely new OEM spool valve section.

   Reassembly

   Bolt the valve back into the stack, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

   Test

   Start the tractor, operate the #4 remote to bleed any trapped air, check for leaks, and clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool.
