A.43.25

Massey Ferguson A.43.25 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Transmission/Hydraulic ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the 4th external remote hydraulic spool valve. This is typically an electro-hydraulic fault, often pointing to a connection problem, voltage irregularity to the valve's solenoid, or a mechanical sticking/jamming of the valve spool that prevents it from actuating properly.

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition for dirt, metal shavings, or water contamination, and inspect the filter for blockages.

  2. Inspect External Hydraulic Valve 4 for visible fluid leaks, damaged couplers, or worn hoses.

  3. Inspect the electrical wiring harness leading to the Valve 4 solenoid for corrosion, loose pins, or frayed wires.

  4. Swap the electrical connector with an adjacent valve (e.g., Valve 3) to test if the fault follows the wiring or stays with Valve 4.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by moving the remote levers/joysticks.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  3. Harness Repair

Disconnect the electrical harness from External Hydraulic Valve 4. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector is damaged, splice in a new OEM pigtail connector.

  4. Valve Removal

If the electrical connection is sound, unbolt and remove the Valve 4 solenoid/spool assembly from the hydraulic block.

  5. Clean and Inspect

Inspect the valve spool for sticking, jamming, or scoring caused by debris. Clean the valve body thoroughly.

  6. Reseal

Replace the internal O-rings and seals to prevent internal pressure loss or external leaks.

  7. Replace Valve (If Necessary)

If the solenoid is burnt out or the valve body is heavily worn/scored, replace the entire Valve 4 assembly.

  8. Reassembly

Reinstall the valve and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Fluid Maintenance

Replace the hydraulic filter and top off the hydraulic fluid with OEM UTTO fluid.

  10. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, clear the DTC using a Massey Ferguson compatible diagnostic tool, and test the remote valve under load to ensure the repair was successful.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • External Hydraulic Valve / Electro-Hydraulic Spool Valve

Exact OEM part number depends on the specific tractor model and hydraulic block configuration.

  • Hydraulic / Transmission Filter

Exact OEM number varies by model.

  • Hydraulic Valve Seal/O-Ring Kit

  • UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) Hydraulic Fluid

    e.g., 10W40 UTTO
