Massey Ferguson A.4X.25 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 4th external remote hydraulic valve (spool valve) at the rear of the tractor. The issue could stem from an electrical fault (such as a failed solenoid or wiring issue), a stuck spool valve, or a pressure/flow restriction specific to that remote.

   Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Look for dark fluid, burnt smells, or milky appearance indicating water contamination.

   Inspect the hydraulic or transmission filter for blockages that could restrict flow.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector plugging into the Valve 4 CAN actuator/solenoid for corroded pins, broken wires, or loose connections.

   Perform a component swap test: swap the solenoid/actuator from Valve 4 with a known good one (e.g., Valve 3). If the fault code changes to Valve 3, the actuator is faulty. If it remains on Valve 4, the mechanical spool is sticking or damaged.

   Ensure the quick-release couplers on remote 4 are not damaged or blocked, which can cause dead-heading and pressure faults.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine. Relieve all residual hydraulic pressure by moving the remote control levers/joysticks back and forth.

   Access the Valve Block

   Locate the external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the section for Valve 4.

   Electrical Replacement (If actuator is faulty)

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the Valve 4 actuator. Remove the retaining fasteners, slide the old actuator/solenoid off the valve stem, and install the new unit.

   Mechanical Replacement (If spool is sticking/leaking)

   Clean the area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Unbolt the Valve 4 section from the hydraulic block (have a catch pan ready for escaping hydraulic fluid). If rebuilding, replace the internal O-rings and zero-leak valve seals. If the spool is scored, the entire valve section must be replaced. Install the new or rebuilt valve section, torque the tie-bolts to the manufacturer's specification, and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Top up the hydraulic fluid to replace any lost during the repair. Start the tractor, operate Valve 4 several times to bleed air from the system, and check for leaks.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic interface tool to clear the A.4X.25 fault code from the ECU.
