Massey Ferguson A.4X.29 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) module or Autotronic controller: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Malfunction in the 4th rear electrohydraulic remote (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem, a spool position sensor failure, a solenoid circuit error (such as an open circuit or abnormal amp draw), or a mechanical issue where the valve spool cannot return to the neutral position.

   Visual LED Inspection: Look at the LED indicator on the electronic valve itself. A red light indicates it is receiving power, a green light indicates it is receiving input to move, and a flashing light confirms the valve has detected an internal fault.

   Autotronic Diagnostics: Turn the key on, push the clutch in and release it to clear the right screen, then hold down the up arrow key to access the Autotronic menu. Check the specific DC and TC error codes to narrow down if it is a communication error or a mechanical spool error.

   Spool Position Check: Verify if the external linkage/valves are physically stuck. Check if the valve is returning to the center (neutral) position.

   Wiring & Connection Check: Inspect the wiring harness connecting the armrest/dash to the mid-mount/rear valve module for open circuits, shorts to ground, or high/low amp draw.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the EHR system.

   Inspect and Clean

   Locate External Hydraulic Valve 4 in the rear remote stack. Disconnect the electrical harness and clean the contacts. Reconnect and test to rule out a simple connection issue (which is a common cause for this code).

   Mechanical Detent Modification (If Applicable)

   If the spool is mechanically failing to return to neutral, the detents may be worn. On some models (like the 7600 series), you can replace and modify the spool valve detents rather than replacing the entire valve assembly.

   Replace Solenoid/Valve

   If the internal spool position sensor or the solenoid has failed (indicated by open circuit or amp draw codes), the solenoid or the complete electrohydraulic valve assembly must be replaced.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing the valve or detents, use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to recalibrate the valve spool (EHR Neutral Set point).

   Clear Codes

   Clear the DTCs from the Autotronic system and test the remote via the cab armrest controls to ensure the red flashing light does not return.
