A.50.12

Massey Ferguson A.50.12 – Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) or Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction in the circuit or operation of the 5th external hydraulic remote (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem (such as an open or short circuit), a failed solenoid, or a mechanical binding in the valve that the system's sensors are detecting.

Check the cause

  1. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to confirm A.50.12 is the only code present (if codes like 0A.41.FF are also present, it strongly points to a wiring/connection issue).

  2. Locate External Hydraulic Valve 5 on the rear remote stack and inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve's solenoid for chafing, breaks, or melting.

  3. Disconnect the electrical plug at Valve 5 and check for water ingress, bent pins, or corrosion.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the solenoid coil on Valve 5 to ensure it is not shorted or open.

  5. Check for proper voltage reaching the connector when the valve is commanded via the cab controls.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system by cycling the hydraulic controls in the cab.

  3. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a corroded connector, splice in a new connector pigtail or repair the harness.

  4. Solenoid Replacement

If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/screws holding the solenoid to the spool valve and slide the old solenoid off. Install the new solenoid.

  5. Valve Replacement

If the entire spool valve is faulty or mechanically binding, disconnect the hydraulic lines to Valve 5 (cap them to prevent contamination), unbolt the valve section from the hydraulic stack, and install the replacement valve assembly.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness to the valve.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use your diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs.

  8. Test

Start the tractor and operate the 5th hydraulic remote to ensure smooth operation and verify the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • AGCO Solenoid Valve - 5 Spool

    WR24859

    Used on some AGCO/Massey equipment

  • Generic Massey Ferguson Hydraulic Valve

    1032485M91

Generic Massey Ferguson Hydraulic Valve reference

  • External Hydraulic Spool Valve / Electro-Hydraulic Solenoid Valve

Always verify whether you need just the electrical solenoid coil or the entire mechanical spool valve block. Ensure you are ordering the slice specifically designated for the 5th remote position.
