A.50.13

Massey Ferguson A.50.13 – Dashboard Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction in the circuit, solenoid, or mechanical operation of the #5 rear remote electrohydraulic spool valve. The system detects a signal out of range, an open/short circuit, or a mechanical blockage, which typically results in the system automatically blocking/locking out the hydraulic valves as a safety measure.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness leading to External Valve 5 for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground

  2. Inspect the solenoid connector for corrosion or loose pins

  3. Measure the coil resistance on the Valve 5 solenoid to ensure it is within specification and not shorted

  4. Check the spool valve for sticking or jamming caused by internal wear or debris

  5. Verify if the dashboard control unit has locked the valves (valves will remain unresponsive until the error code is manually cleared)

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Safely park the tractor, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure.

  2. Inspect the Harness

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 5 on the rear remote block. Disconnect the electrical connector and inspect it. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner if corrosion is present. Repair any damaged wiring in the harness.

  3. Test/Replace Solenoid

If the wiring is intact, test the solenoid. If it fails, replace the solenoid coil.

  4. Address Mechanical Failure

If the electrical side is functioning, the spool valve itself may have failed. Replace the complete valve assembly, or if the issue is isolated to the spool valve detents, source and modify a detent kit.

  5. Clear the Code

Once the repair is made, you must delete the error code from the control unit dashboard. The system blocks the valves when the code is active, and they will not unlock until the code is cleared.

  6. Test Operation

Start the tractor and cycle the #5 hydraulic remote to ensure proper fluid flow and pressure without the code returning.
