Massey Ferguson A.50.19 – Autotronic 5, Autotronic 4, or Spool Valve Controller (DCC2/DCC3): External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

An electrical or operational fault with the 5th electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) spool valve on the tractor. The system has detected an anomaly such as a signal out of range, an open circuit, a short to ground, or an implausible position reading from the valve's solenoid or position sensor.

   Visual Inspection: Check the electrical connector at the #5 external hydraulic valve at the rear remote stack for dirt, moisture, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #5 valve for rub points, exposed wires, or a short to ground.

   Coil Resistance Test: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the #5 valve solenoid coil and compare it to an adjacent working valve. An open circuit or dead short indicates a failed coil.

   Swap Test: Swap the electrical connector from Valve 4 to Valve 5. If the fault code changes to the Valve 4 circuit, the valve/solenoid is the culprit. If the fault remains on Valve 5, the issue is in the wiring harness or the ECU.

   Hydraulic System Check: Ensure hydraulic fluid levels are correct and filters are not clogged, as severe pressure drops can trigger valve performance codes.

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts and protect the ECU.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the #5 valve. Remove the retaining nut or collar at the end of the spool that holds the solenoid coil in place.

   Replace the Coil/Valve

   Slide the old solenoid coil off the cartridge. If the spool itself is leaking or mechanically stuck, unbolt the specific valve slice from the hydraulic stack and replace the cartridge/seals.

   Reassembly

   Install the new solenoid coil or valve section. Torque all retaining nuts and hydraulic stack tie-bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the #5 remote function. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.50.19 inactive code from the system.
