Massey Ferguson A.50.26 – Hydraulic Control Module / Main Tractor ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction, electrical fault, or connection problem specifically isolated to the 5th external hydraulic spool valve (often an electro-hydraulic "slice" on the rear valve stack).

Check the cause
Inspect the spool valve cable: Check the 4-pin electrical harness and connector going to the #5 spool valve slice for corrosion, broken wires, or loose seating.
Check pilot pressure control: Inspect the pilot pressure control solenoid on the electric spool valve for proper resistance and operation.
Visual leak inspection: Check the valve block for physical damage, blown O-rings, or hydraulic fluid leaks that could be shorting the electrical connections.
Code clearing: Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the DTC. If the code returns immediately upon startup or when actuating the #5 remote, it is a hard electrical fault (likely a dead solenoid or severed cable).
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and actuate the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify the #5 slice.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the spool valve cable from the #5 electric spool slice.
Remove the Faulty Valve
If the valve itself has failed, unbolt the specific electric spool slice from the valve stack. Be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid.
Install the Replacement
Install the new or reconditioned spool slice, ensuring all O-rings and seals between the slices are properly seated to prevent internal leaks.
Reconnect and Program
Reconnect the 4-pin electrical harness. Note: If replacing the entire electric spool slice, the new unit will likely need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic tool.
Test
Reconnect the battery, top up the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and test the #5 remote. Clear the fault code.
