Massey Ferguson A.50.2A – Tractor Control Unit or Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a fault in the circuit or operation of the 5th rear remote hydraulic valve, typically pointing to an electrical/circuit issue, connection problem, or mechanical/hydraulic condition.

Check the cause
Check for visible hydraulic fluid leaks around the External Valve 5 block.
Verify that the tractor's hydraulic fluid level is correct and the hydraulic filter is not clogged.
Inspect the solenoid connector for Valve 5. Look for harness rub points, frayed wires, or corrosion inside the connector.
Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter and verify ground integrity to rule out a short or open circuit.
Check if the valve is unresponsive due to sticking or jamming caused by system debris (mechanical binding).
Repair steps
Retrieve and Verify
Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to confirm code 0A.50.2A is active and isolate Valve 5.
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing the valve block.
Electrical Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a faulty connector at Valve 5, repair the harness or replace the pigtail connector.
Solenoid Replacement
If the solenoid coil fails the resistance test (shorted or open), remove the retaining nut on the end of the valve spool and slide the old coil off. Install the new solenoid coil and torque to spec.
Valve Cleaning/Replacement
If the electrical circuit is intact but the valve is mechanically jammed, remove the Valve 5 assembly. Clean the spool and bore to remove debris. If the valve is scored or leaking internally, replace the entire spool valve section.
Reassembly & Fluid
Reinstall the valve, replace any disturbed O-rings, and top off the hydraulic fluid.
Clear Codes
Use the diagnostic tool or dashboard interface to clear the error code from the control unit. Test the remote valve with an implement to ensure proper flow and pressure.
