Massey Ferguson A.51.24 – Implement/Hydraulic Control Module or Main Vehicle ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

The onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction on the 5th rear remote hydraulic valve circuit. This is typically caused by an electrical connection problem (such as an open or short circuit), a failed solenoid coil, or a mechanical binding issue within the valve spool itself.

   Inspect the electrical harness connector at External Hydraulic Valve 5 (located at the rear remote valve stack) for loose, corroded, or damaged pins.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for chafing, breaks, or pinch points.

   Test the solenoid coil using a multimeter for proper resistance (an open circuit or infinite resistance indicates a burnt-out coil).

   Check for hydraulic leaks around the valve block and verify that the valve spool is not mechanically binding due to contamination in the hydraulic fluid.

   Prepare tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons.

   Locate valve

   Locate External Hydraulic Valve 5 at the rear remote valve stack.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the valve solenoid.

   Clean and inspect connector

   Clean the connector contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector or wiring is damaged, repair or replace the pigtail.

   Remove faulty solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid tested faulty, remove the retaining nut/screw holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge.

   Install new solenoid

   Slide the old solenoid off and install the new replacement solenoid.

   Address mechanical issues

   If the issue is mechanical (spool binding), remove the valve cartridge, inspect for debris, clean, and replace O-rings/seals, or replace the entire valve section if it is scored.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test system

   Start the tractor, operate the valve to bleed any air, and check for leaks.

    Clear DTC

    Clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool and verify the code does not return.
