A.51.27

Massey Ferguson A.51.27 – Auxiliary Hydraulic Controller or Vehicle Control Unit (VCU): External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction in the circuit for the 5th external hydraulic remote valve. This is typically caused by an electrical connection problem (such as an open or short circuit), a failed valve solenoid, or a mechanical binding issue within the spool valve itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the rear hydraulic valve stack to locate External Valve 5. Look for obvious signs of physical damage or hydraulic fluid leaks.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 5 solenoid for chafing, cuts, or pinched wires.

  3. Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve and check for corroded, bent, or pushed-back pins.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the Valve 5 solenoid coil to ensure it is not shorted or open.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Access the Valve

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 5 on the rear remote stack.

  3. Clean the Connection

If the diagnostic check revealed a dirty or loose connector, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect it.

  4. Replace the Solenoid/Valve

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the resistance test (or if the mechanical spool is internally binding), remove the retaining hardware holding the solenoid/actuator to the valve slice.

  5. Install New Part

Install the replacement solenoid or complete valve slice, ensuring all O-rings are properly seated to prevent leaks. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Clear the Code

Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn the key on and use a compatible diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the 0A.51.27 DTC from the system.

  7. Test Operation

Start the tractor and test the 5th remote valve with an implement to ensure proper operation and verify that the code does not return.
