A.51.2A

Massey Ferguson A.51.2A – Autotronic or Armrest / Hydraulic Valve Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

Fault with the electrohydraulic spool valve number 5 (often used for auxiliary rear remotes). The underlying condition is typically a connection problem, a short circuit, an open circuit, or an issue with the spool position sensor value.

Check the cause

  1. Check the LED indicator on the electronic valve (solid red indicates power, green indicates input to move, flashing indicates an active fault)

  2. Observe the blink codes on the flashing valve LED (first flash is the valve number, followed by the error code)

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to Valve 5 for open circuits, short circuits to earth, or shorts between cables

  4. Verify the spool position sensor value via the diagnostic screen (turn key on, push and release clutch, hold up arrow key to view DC/TC error codes in the Autotronic menu)

  5. Ensure the external linkage and valves are mechanically returning to the center/neutral position

Repair steps

  1. Clear Codes & Retest

Attempt to clear the DTCs via the onboard diagnostic interface to see if the code is an active hard fault or a stored intermittent issue.

  2. Harness Repair

If a short or open circuit is found during the diagnostic checks, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness leading to Valve 5.

  3. Detent Modification

On some models (like the 7600 series), source and modify replacement detents to fix mechanical sticking issues.

  4. Valve Replacement

If the solenoids or internal position sensors have failed and the wiring is intact, replace the complete electrohydraulic spool valve. Disconnect the hydraulic lines (ensure system pressure is relieved first), unplug the electrical connector, unbolt the valve block from the hydraulic stack, and install the new unit.
