A.52.22

Massey Ferguson A.52.22 – Rear Chassis Module (SCC) or Tractor Control Module / Hydraulic Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction in the 5th Selective Control Valve (SCV) / remote hydraulic valve circuit, typically caused by an electrical issue (short/open circuit) or a mechanical/hydraulic issue (stuck valve spool, pressure deviation).

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic fluid level and condition for dark, burnt, or milky appearance indicating contamination

  2. Inspect the hydraulic filter for partial blockages that could restrict flow and trigger pressure-related faults

  3. Test the system pressure with a hydraulic gauge to determine if the issue is isolated to Valve 5 or a broader restriction

  4. Inspect the midstack SCV wiring harness and Valve 5 solenoid connector for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose connections

  5. Use a multimeter to test the Valve 5 solenoid for an open circuit or a short circuit to ground

Repair steps

  1. Fluid and Filter Maintenance

If the diagnostic checks reveal degraded or contaminated fluid, drain the hydraulic system, flush it, and replace the hydraulic filter. Refill with fresh OEM UTTO fluid.

  2. Wiring Repair

If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the broken wires or replace the SCV wiring harness section to restore proper voltage to the valve.

  3. Solenoid Replacement

If the multimeter test shows the Valve 5 solenoid coil is faulty (shorted/open), disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or screws holding the solenoid to the valve block, slide the old solenoid off the valve stem, and install the new replacement solenoid. Reconnect the wiring.

  4. Valve Cleaning/Replacement

If the electrical components are fine but the valve is mechanically stuck, remove the SCV assembly. Clean the valve block, inspect the spool for scoring, and replace the internal O-rings/seals. If the valve body is heavily scored or damaged, replace the entire SCV valve assembly.

  5. Clear Codes

Connect a compatible diagnostic tool or interface device to the tractor to clear the A.52.22 fault code from the ECU. Test the operation of the 5th remote valve to ensure the repair was successful.
