Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and inspect for dark, burnt, or milky appearance indicating contamination.

  2. Inspect external hydraulic valve 5, quick couplers, and associated fittings for external leaks.

  3. Check for a partially blocked hydraulic filter restricting flow.

  4. Test the system pressure with a hydraulic gauge to isolate the issue to the #5 valve, relief valve, or hydraulic pump.

  5. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors going to spool valve 5 for corrosion or damage.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Fluid/Filter Issues

If the fluid is contaminated or the filter is clogged, perform a complete fluid flush and replace the hydraulic filter.

  2. Address Leaks/Seals

If the #5 external valve is leaking at the quick couplers, replace the seals or the coupler assembly.

  3. Valve Replacement

If electrical connections are sound, fluid is clean, and system pressure is normal but the #5 valve still fails to operate or hold pressure, the external hydraulic control valve itself must be removed and replaced.

  4. Clear the Code

Once the mechanical or electrical repair is finished, use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the 0A.52.24 DTC from the system.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • External Hydraulic Control Valve / Spool Valve

Specific to the tractor model's rear remote stack

  • Hydraulic Filter

OEM replacement highly recommended; avoid low-quality substitutes to prevent contamination

  • Hydraulic Fluid (UTTO)

    e.g., 10W40 tractor transmission/hydraulic oil

  • Hydraulic Quick Couplers / Seals

If the issue is isolated to a leak at the valve's external connection
