A.52.28

Massey Ferguson A.52.28 – Electronic Hitch Control (EHC) or Transmission/Hydraulic controller: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

This fault code indicates a connection problem, electrical fault, or mechanical failure on the 5th external hydraulic remote valve. The system's onboard diagnostics have detected that the signal from the valve's solenoid or position sensor is out of range, missing, or implausible (e.g., an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power).

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Dark, burnt, or milky fluid can cause valve sticking.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Valve 5 for rub points, frayed wires, or a disconnected solenoid connector.

  3. Test the solenoid coil resistance and check ground integrity using a multimeter. Ensure the voltage is not dropping too low when the valve is commanded to actuate.

  4. Inspect the valve block and quick couplers for external leaks, which can cause pressure drops and trigger sensor faults.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all residual pressure in the hydraulic system before servicing.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the rear remote valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Address Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or open circuit, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the pigtail connector.

  4. Replace the Solenoid/Valve

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/bolts holding the solenoid to Valve 5. Swap in the new solenoid.

  5. Filter and Fluid Maintenance

If the fluid was contaminated, drain the hydraulic fluid, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with fresh OEM-spec UTTO fluid.

  6. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTC from the system and cycle the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
