Massey Ferguson A.52.29 – Hydraulic Control Module / Auxiliary Valve Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction associated with the 5th external hydraulic remote (spool) valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem (such as an open circuit or short to the valve's solenoid), a loss of calibration, or a mechanical failure within the valve preventing it from responding properly to the tractor's control inputs.

Check the cause
Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Ensure the hydraulic filter is not clogged, as restricted flow can cause valve performance issues.
Inspect External Valve 5 for external leaks, physical damage, or loose fittings.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the Valve 5 solenoid. Look for corrosion, bent pins, or wire chafing. Test for a short circuit to ground or an open circuit.
Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connector from Valve 5 to another working valve (e.g., Valve 4). If the fault code changes to the other valve, the issue is in the wiring or the ECU. If the fault remains with Valve 5's physical location, the solenoid or the valve itself is faulty.
Check if the hydraulic module has lost its calibration. Attempt to recalibrate the valve via the tractor's terminal or a dealer diagnostic tool.
Repair steps
Prepare tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground to relieve system pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.
Clean work area
Thoroughly clean the area around the rear remote valves to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect electricals
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the External Hydraulic Valve 5 solenoid.
Remove hydraulic lines
Disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines attached to the valve. Cap or plug all open hoses and ports immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
Remove the valve
Unbolt the retaining bolts holding the spool valve assembly to the hydraulic block. Carefully remove the valve and its O-rings.
Install the new valve
Lubricate the new O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid. Position the new valve assembly and tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reassemble components
Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical harness back into the solenoid.
Check fluid levels
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and check the hydraulic fluid level, topping off if necessary.
Test and calibrate
Operate the valve to bleed any trapped air. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.52.29 fault code and perform an End-Of-Line (EOL) calibration for the new valve if required by the ECU.
