A.53.1F

Massey Ferguson A.53.1F – Main Vehicle ECU / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

The code indicates a malfunction or connection problem with the 5th external hydraulic remote spool valve, usually pointing to an electrical failure, a CAN bus communication error, or a mechanical binding/sticking of the spool valve.

Applies to these machines

  • 5710SL
  • 5711SL
  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • T4
  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709
  • 4710
  • 5608-5613
  • 5710SL-5713SL
  • 6445-6499
  • 6613
  • 7465-7485
  • 7614-7626
  • 7714-7726S

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic/transmission oil level and condition, as well as filters, for blockages or contamination

  2. Inspect the 4-pin electrical connector on the Valve 5 solenoid for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins

  3. Swap the electrical connection from Valve 5 to a known working valve (e.g., Valve 4) to test the solenoid. If the error moves, the issue is in the wiring harness or ECU; if it remains, the valve's solenoid or internal sensor is faulty

  4. Ensure the quick-release couplers are not damaged or blocked, which can cause pressure-related faults and mechanical binding

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the rear hydraulic valve stack with brake cleaner or a pressure washer to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the 4-pin electrical harness from the Valve 5 solenoid. Disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to that specific remote.

  4. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the tie-rods or mounting bolts holding the valve section to the hydraulic stack. Carefully slide the valve out, being prepared to catch residual hydraulic oil.

  5. Rebuild or Replace

If rebuilding: Use an OEM spool valve repair kit to replace the internal O-rings, seals, and detents. If replacing: Install the new Bosch Rexroth valve section. Ensure all mating O-rings between the valve slices are seated correctly.

  6. Reassembly

Slide the valve back onto the stack, insert the bolts, and torque to the manufacturer's specifications. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the 4-pin electrical connector.

  7. Calibration and Testing

Top up the hydraulic/transmission fluid. Start the tractor and use the Datatronic screen to navigate to the hydraulics page. Set the remote valve engagement and flow. Test the valve with an implement to ensure there are no leaks and that the code has cleared. You may need a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the stored DTC.
