Massey Ferguson A.60.13 – Hydraulic Valve Controller or Armrest/Cab Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Component is 'Out of Calibration' or requires calibration. The control module is not receiving the expected position values from the spool valve's position sensor, or the valve failed its automatic calibration procedure at startup due to mechanical binding or sensor drift.

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying FMI codes (e.g., FMI 3, 4, 5, or 6) on the same circuit, which indicate a hard electrical short or open circuit rather than a calibration issue.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 6 (usually the rearmost slice on the rear valve block) for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

  3. Check the hydraulic oil level and filter condition. Dirty oil or blocked filters can cause the spool to stick mechanically, preventing successful calibration.

  4. Use the Datatronic terminal or dealer diagnostic software (WinTest / EDT) to monitor the spool position sensor value and attempt a manual software calibration.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

    Ensure the tractor is parked safely, the engine is off, and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the remote valves.

  2. Clean Connections

    Disconnect the electrical connector to Spool Valve 6. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and attempt to clear the code/recalibrate.

  3. Inspect for Mechanical Binding

    If the valve fails to calibrate, the spool may be mechanically sticking. Remove the valve slice and inspect the spool and detent mechanism.

  4. Replace Components

    If the solenoid or position sensor has failed, replace the faulty components. Note: Massey Ferguson often only sells the complete electronic valve slice as a single unit, though independent repairs can sometimes be made by modifying detent kits.

  5. Reassemble

    Reassemble the valve block, ensuring new O-rings are used between the slices to prevent pressure leaks.

  6. Recalibrate

    Run the spool valve calibration routine via the tractor's Datatronic screen or dealer software to marry the new valve/sensor to the ECU.
