A.60.18

Massey Ferguson A.60.18 – Tractor ECU / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Triggered when the tractor's onboard diagnostic system detects a malfunction, connection problem, or electrical fault specifically on the 6th external hydraulic remote valve (also known as the spool valve or electric spool slice).

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, and check if the hydraulic filters are clogged (recommended change interval is every 300–500 hours).

  2. Inspect the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor for physical damage, leaking seals, or damaged hydraulic lines.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Valve 6. Check the electrical connector at the spool slice for corrosion, bent pins, or loose seating.

  4. Test for continuity and proper voltage reaching the pilot pressure control.

  5. Attempt to clear the DTC using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to see if it is a hard fault or an intermittent connection issue.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system before beginning work.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts and ensure the ECU is powered down.

  3. Remove Connections

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the faulty Electric Spool Slice (Valve 6).

  4. Remove Hydraulic Lines

Carefully disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines attached to the specific valve slice. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.

  5. Unbolt the Valve

Unbolt the faulty electric spool slice from the main hydraulic valve block assembly.

  6. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement electric spool slice, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reassemble

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical connector.

  8. Refill and Bleed

Top up the UTTO hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the repair. Start the tractor and operate the valve to bleed any trapped air from the system.

  9. Programming

Program/calibrate the new electric spool slice to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic tool before it will function correctly.

  10. Clear Codes

Clear the 0A.60.18 fault code and test the remote valve under load.
