A.61.11

Massey Ferguson A.61.11: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction or communication failure with the 6th external remote hydraulic spool valve, frequently caused by an electrical connection failure to the valve's solenoid, a stuck spool valve, or severe fluid contamination preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Perform an implement swap test by connecting the implement to a different remote spool valve (e.g., Valve 4 or 5) to isolate the issue to Valve 6.

  2. Inspect the Valve 6 quick-release couplers for dirt, rust, worn tips, or damaged balls that could trap pressure.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector plugging into the Valve 6 solenoid for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires.

  4. Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition for milky, dirty, or incorrect-grade oil.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve block area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during repair.

  2. Service the Electrical Connection

Disconnect the electrical plug at Valve 6. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect it. Clear the code to see if it returns.

  3. Replace Couplers

If the quick-release couplers are damaged or failing to open, depressurize the system and unscrew the faulty couplers on Valve 6. Install new 1/2" ISO 5675 female quick couplers and new dust caps.

  4. Flush Fluid and Replace Filter

If the hydraulic fluid is contaminated, drain the system, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with the correct specification UTTO fluid.

  5. Valve Replacement/Rebuild

If the electrical connection is sound and the fluid is clean but the valve remains stuck or unresponsive, the spool valve slice must be removed. Unbolt the Valve 6 slice from the hydraulic block stack. Either rebuild it using an OEM spool valve repair kit or replace the entire electric spool slice.

  6. Reprogramming

Note that if a modern electric spool slice is replaced, it may need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic tool.
