Massey Ferguson A.61.12 – Auxiliary Hydraulic Controller or Tractor Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the 6th rear external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or current level error) communicating with the valve's solenoid, or a mechanical failure/blockage preventing the valve from actuating properly.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to External Valve 6 at the rear remote stack for frayed wires, corrosion, or a loose connection
Perform a solenoid swap test by swapping the solenoid from Valve 6 with an adjacent, working valve (e.g., Valve 5). Clear the codes and operate the hydraulics. If the fault code changes to Valve 5, the solenoid is the culprit. If the code remains A.61.12, the issue is in the wiring harness or the ECU
Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and ensure it is not contaminated, as a heavily contaminated filter can restrict flow and cause valve actuation errors
Inspect the quick couplers and the valve slice mating surfaces for visible leaks that could indicate blown O-rings
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/joysticks to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Valve 6 solenoid.
Remove the Valve/Solenoid
Depending on the diagnosis, either unbolt the solenoid coil from the valve body or remove the tie-rods holding the valve stack together to extract the entire Valve 6 slice.
Replace Seals
If removing the valve slice, always replace the mounting O-rings between the valve sections.
Install New Component
Install the new solenoid or valve slice and torque the bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Refill
Reconnect the electrical harness. Top up the hydraulic fluid to replace any lost during the repair.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.61.12 fault code and test the remote valve for proper operation.
Parts you might need
(4)External Hydraulic Valve Solenoid / Spool Valve Slice
OEM Part number depends on exact tractor VIN/Model
Hydraulic Valve Mounting O-Ring Kit
Generic fitment for sealing between valve slices
Massey Ferguson Premium Hydraulic Fluid (UTTO)
e.g., 10W40
Hydraulic Filter
OEM replacement recommended; aftermarket filters are noted to increase contamination risks in complex EHC systems
