Massey Ferguson A.61.19 – Implement Control Unit or Tractor Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction in the 6th external hydraulic remote valve circuit. This can be triggered by an electrical connection problem (such as a voltage drop or open circuit at the valve solenoid) or a mechanical failure (such as spool leakage, a stuck valve, or foreign matter preventing the valve from centering).

Check the cause

  1. Navigate to the hydraulics page on the Datatronic 5 terminal (if equipped) to verify the flow settings and naming for Valve 6. Ensure the system is actively trying to command the valve.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at External Hydraulic Valve 6 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires.

  3. Perform a spool leakage check: Position the control handle in 'Neutral', connect a hydraulic hand pump to the control valve port for Valve 6, and pressurize to 2500 psi. If the port cannot hold pressure, oil is leaking around the spool, indicating a damaged spool/bore, failed centering spring, or foreign matter.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

    Ensure the tractor is off and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system before disconnecting lines.

  2. Remove the Valve

    Disconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical connector from Valve 6, then unbolt the valve assembly from the valve bank.

  3. Disassemble and Clean

    Disassemble the control valve. Clean all components thoroughly and inspect the spool and spool bore for scoring or damage.

  4. Inspect the Spring

    Check the centering spring to ensure it is intact and capable of returning the spool to the 'Neutral' position.

  5. Reassemble and Retest

    Reassemble the valve to ensure no contamination remains. Repeat the 2500 psi spool leakage check.

  6. Check Return Lines

    Ensure the return port from the valve to the sump is not restricted, as this can cause the valve to malfunction.

  7. Replace if Necessary

    If no pressure can be obtained after cleaning and reassembly, the valve assembly is internally compromised and must be replaced.

  8. Clear Codes

    Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.61.19 DTC from the system.
