A.61.20

Massey Ferguson A.61.20 – Onboard diagnostic system / hydraulic valve controller: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction associated with the 6th external hydraulic remote/spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical circuit problem (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power), a sensor/solenoid signal out of range, or a mechanical/hydraulic failure preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Dashboard & Warning Lights: Check the dash for the severity of the warning (Red = critical/stop, Amber = caution) and note any secondary codes.

  2. Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the 6th hydraulic remote valve. Look for harness rub points, broken wires, or damaged solenoid connectors.

  3. Electrical Testing: Test the solenoid coil resistance and check for ground integrity. Verify if there is a low voltage condition, an open circuit, or a short to ground/power at the valve connector.

  4. Live Data Scan: Use a compatible diagnostic tool to read live data from the hydraulic controller to see if the signal from Valve 6 is missing or implausible.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and Verify

Connect a compatible diagnostic interface to confirm code 0A.61.20 is active.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal a short or open circuit in the harness, repair the damaged wiring or clean corroded connector pins.

  3. Replace Solenoid/Pilot Control

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails the resistance test, replace the solenoid or pilot pressure control unit on the valve.

  4. Rebuild or Replace Spool Valve

If the electrical components are functioning but the valve is mechanically stuck or leaking, remove the spool valve assembly. You can either rebuild it using an OEM spool valve repair kit (replacing internal seals and O-rings) or replace the entire electric spool slice.

  5. Programming

If replacing the entire electronic spool slice (e.g., part 3797234M6), the new unit must be programmed to the tractor's ECU to function correctly.

  6. Clear Codes

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs and test the hydraulic remote to ensure full functionality.
