A.61.21

Massey Ferguson A.61.21 – Main Vehicle ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction, an out-of-range signal, or a connection problem specifically on the 6th external hydraulic remote/spool valve circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector leading to External Hydraulic Valve 6 for corrosion, bent pins, or wire chafing

  2. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface to retrieve the code and attempt to manually actuate Valve 6 to see if the solenoid responds

  3. Check the valve body for external hydraulic fluid leaks or physical damage, and verify that the tractor's hydraulic fluid level is correct and the fluid is not contaminated

  4. Determine if the spool is mechanically sticking or binding, which can cause the solenoid to draw excessive current and trigger a fault

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual hydraulic system pressure.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 6 on the rear hydraulic valve stack/manifold.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Carefully unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the valve's solenoid.

  4. Prep the Area

Clean the area around the valve block thoroughly to prevent dirt and debris from entering the hydraulic system during removal.

  5. Remove Lines

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines from the valve. Cap or plug the lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  6. Unbolt the Valve

Remove the mounting bolts securing the valve to the hydraulic manifold.

  7. Remove and Replace

Pull the faulty valve away from the block. Discard the old O-rings/seals.

  8. Install the New Valve

Install the new or rebuilt spool valve using a new set of mounting O-rings.

  9. Reassembly

Tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical connector back in.

  10. Test and Clear

Start the tractor, check the valve for leaks, and operate the remote to bleed any trapped air from the system. Finally, use a diagnostic tool to clear the A.61.21 fault code from the system.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • External Hydraulic Spool Valve

Exact OEM part numbers vary heavily depending on the specific tractor model and valve configuration (e.g., single vs. double acting, proportional electronic control).

  • Hydraulic Valve Mounting O-Ring Kit

    SMA-DHPN485A

Required to seal the new valve to the manifold block

  • Push to Connect Quick Coupler Body

Often replaced concurrently if the remote ports are damaged
