Massey Ferguson A.61.22 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Control module: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue
Issue description
This indicates a malfunction, connection problem, or electrical fault associated with the 6th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) on the tractor's hydraulic system.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and solenoid connector at External Valve 6 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires
Ensure the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) is at the correct level and free of contamination
Inspect the hydraulic filter to ensure it has been changed within the last 300–500 hours, as a contaminated filter reduces oil flow
Check for air in the hydraulic system, which can cause vibrations, spontaneous cylinder action, and valve faults
Perform a pressure test to verify system pressure (should be between 2200 psi and 3600 psi)
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and actuate the hydraulic levers to relieve all residual pressure in the system.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the valve solenoids.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.
Disconnect Lines and Harness
Unplug the electrical harness from Valve 6. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and quick couplers attached to the valve block.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the faulty spool valve/electric slice from the valve stack.
Install the New Valve
Mount the replacement spool valve, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated between the valve slices.
Reassemble
Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.
Fluid and Filter
Replace the hydraulic filter and top off the system with OEM UTTO fluid.
Bleed and Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the valve to bleed air from the system. Check for leaks.
Programming
If replacing an electronic spool slice (e.g., part 3797234M6), the new unit must be programmed to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic tool. Clear the DTC.
