Massey Ferguson A.61.28 – Tractor ECU / Hydraulic Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

A malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 6th rear external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve), typically caused by an electrical fault (open circuit, short to ground/power) or a mechanical issue (stuck spool or rapid shut-off error) preventing the valve from responding correctly.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 6 solenoid on the rear hydraulic block for rub points, frayed wires, or loose connectors

   Disconnect the connector at Valve 6 and test the solenoid coil's resistance with a multimeter, comparing it to a known good valve (like Valve 5) to check for an open circuit or internal short

   Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and ensure the hydraulic filter is not heavily contaminated, as restricted flow can cause pressure deviations

   Check if the spool valve is physically stuck or binding due to debris in the hydraulic system

   Ensure the joystick or fingertip control lever in the cab is functioning properly and hasn't lost its calibration

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the wiring harness from the Valve 6 solenoid.

   Solenoid Replacement (If applicable)

   If only the solenoid coil is faulty, remove the retaining nut, slide the old coil off the valve cartridge, install the new coil, and tighten.

   Valve Slice Replacement (If mechanically failed)

   Clean the area around the rear remote valve stack thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the system. Unbolt the tie rods holding the valve stack together. Carefully remove the faulty Valve 6 slice. Replace all O-rings/seals between the valve slices to prevent internal or external leaks. Insert the new valve slice and re-torque the tie rods to the OEM specification.

   Reassembly & Fluid

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Top up the hydraulic fluid using OEM UTTO fluid and replace the hydraulic filter if the system was opened or contaminated.

   Calibration

   Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the A.61.28 fault code and run a valve calibration routine so the ECU can learn the new valve's parameters.
