A.62.23

Massey Ferguson A.62.23 – Engine/Hydraulic Control Unit (ECU): External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 6th external hydraulic remote valve (electro-hydraulic spool valve), indicating conditions such as open circuit, short circuit, or current level error.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 6 / Solenoid 6 for chafed wires, loose linkages, or corroded pins at the connector

  2. Check hydraulic fluid level (UTTO) and inspect the hydraulic filter for contamination

  3. Perform a system pressure test to ensure pressure is within normal operating range (not above 3600 psi or below 2200 psi)

  4. Check the hydraulic system for aeration, which can cause vibrations and spontaneous cylinder action

  5. Inspect external control valves, pressure accumulators, and quick couplers for physical leaks

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a flat surface, lower all implements to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and turn off the engine.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify Valve 6 (usually the outermost or specifically numbered spool in the stack).

  3. Electrical Repair

If the diagnostic check revealed a short or open circuit, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail. Clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool and re-test.

  4. Valve Replacement

If the solenoid or valve itself has failed internally: Disconnect the electrical connector from Solenoid Valve 6. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines attached to the specific valve section, capping them immediately to prevent contamination. Unbolt the valve section from the hydraulic manifold/stack. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly. Install the new external hydraulic valve/solenoid using new O-rings/seals to prevent leaks. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

  5. Fluid and Filter Service

Replace the hydraulic filter (mandatory when opening the system; never use non-original filters). Top off the UTTO hydraulic fluid.

  6. System Bleed and Test

Start the tractor and operate the external valve controls (via the pushbutton or joystick) to bleed air from the system. Check for leaks and verify the fault code does not return.
