A.6X.18

Massey Ferguson A.6X.18 – Basic Control Unit ECU (A050) or Armrest ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the 6th auxiliary remote hydraulic spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem or CAN bus communication failure, an issue with the spool position sensor value, or a mechanical issue where the valve spool is sticking.

Check the cause

  1. Check Universal Tractor Transmission Oil (UTTO) level and inspect hydraulic filters for dirty oil or metal shavings (mechanical sticking cause)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 6 for corrosion, moisture, or damaged pins (electrical/CAN communication cause)

  3. Test the spool position sensor for proper voltage and resistance (sensor out of range cause)

  4. Verify if the physical linkage, detent mechanism, or the electronic joystick in the cab is sticking and preventing the signal from returning to neutral

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all pressure from the hydraulic system before servicing.

  2. Disconnect Electronics

Disconnect the electrical harness from the Valve 6 solenoid/sensor head.

  3. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the Valve 6 slice from the rear hydraulic valve stack.

  4. Disassemble and Clean

If the spool is sticking, carefully disassemble the valve block. Remove the return spring and detent mechanism. Slide the spool out and inspect it for scoring or damage. Clean the valve body and spool thoroughly to remove any contaminants.

  5. Reseal

Replace all internal O-rings and seals using an OEM spool valve seal kit.

  6. Address Electronic Failures

If the electronic head/position sensor has failed internally and cannot be calibrated, the electronic actuator head (or the entire valve slice) must be replaced or sent to a specialist for rebuild.

  7. Reassembly

Reinstall the valve onto the stack, torque the tie-bolts to spec, and reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Fluid and Calibration

Top up the hydraulic fluid. Use an AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool to clear the 0A.6X.18 DTC and recalibrate the spool valve limits.

Parts you might need
