A.6X.22

Massey Ferguson A.6X.22 – Hydraulic Control Module or Armrest/Valve Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an electrical, signal, or mechanical fault in the circuit controlling the 6th external hydraulic remote spool valve. This is typically caused by an open circuit, a short to ground/power, or a failed solenoid coil on the valve slice.

Check the cause

  1. Check the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 6 (located at the rear remote valve stack) for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power

  3. Measure the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is within the manufacturer's specification

  4. Verify the ground integrity for the valve circuit

  5. Check for low voltage during cranking or weak charging, which can trigger false hydraulic valve codes

Repair steps

  1. Safely park the tractor, lower all hydraulic implements, relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system, and turn off the engine.

Ensure the machine is safe to work on before beginning repairs.

  2. Locate External Hydraulic Valve 6 at the rear remote valve stack.

Identify the correct valve slice for troubleshooting.

  3. Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve's solenoid.

Prepare the valve for electrical testing or removal.

  4. If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring, repair the harness.

Fix any open circuits, shorts, or rub points found during inspection.

  5. If the solenoid or the valve slice itself has failed internally, remove the retaining bolts and carefully extract the faulty electric spool slice.

Remove the defective component from the valve stack.

  6. Install the new electric spool valve slice or pilot pressure control solenoid, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated to prevent leaks.

Carefully install the replacement part to maintain hydraulic system integrity.

  7. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.

Restore all connections to the newly installed valve.

  8. Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the repair.

Ensure the hydraulic fluid is at the correct operating level.

  9. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTC and test the remote valve operation.

Note: Some new electric spool slices may require programming/calibration to the tractor's ECU upon installation.
