Check the cause

  1. Inspect electrical connections and wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 6 for corrosion, bent pins, or frayed wires

  2. Test the solenoid on Valve 6 for proper resistance and verify it receives voltage when commanded from the cab

  3. Check for mechanical binding to see if the spool is physically sticking in one direction

  4. Inspect the valve block for external hydraulic fluid leaks indicating failed O-rings or seals

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/switches to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect

Disconnect the electrical harness connectors to the Valve 6 solenoid.

  3. Remove Lines

Mark and disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines attached to the 6th remote valve section. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.

  4. Dismount Valve

Unbolt the Valve 6 section from the external hydraulic valve stack/block.

  5. Rebuild or Replace

If the valve is leaking or sticking due to degraded seals, disassemble the spool and install a spool valve repair kit (replacing all O-rings and seals). If the internal spool is heavily scored or the solenoid has failed internally, the entire valve section must be replaced.

  6. Reinstall

Bolt the valve back into the stack, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical connector.

  7. Test

Start the tractor, operate the valve to bleed any trapped air, and check for leaks and proper operation. Clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • OEM Spool Valve Repair Kit

    3176423M91

Massey Ferguson OEM Kit, Repair - used for restoring hydraulic functionality to leaking/sticking tractor spool valves

  • External Hydraulic Valve Assembly or Hydraulic Remote Valve Kit

Specific to your tractor's exact configuration (e.g., single/double acting, electro-hydraulic proportional valve). Required if the entire valve needs replacement.
